Taylor made PC based inspection systems can be designed, implemented and maintained, with training and quality audits provided according to specific customer requirements. KCM Services prides itself in its attention to detail and being totally responsive to the individual needs of its customers.  Experience in the industries including off-shore, petro-chemical, manufacturing, marine and food both nationally and internationally from the North East of the UK to the Far East of the World. 1987 - KCM Services was founded as a privately owned limited entity by partnership between Engineering Manager Keith Badham and Swan Power Transmission in Lorraine Street, Hull UK. The services provided being vibration monitoring, vibration analysis and dynamic balancing. The first routine being the monthly vibration monitoring of 24 compressors for the refrigeration plant of Walls Ltd. This contract continued for 10 years until this facility was closed down due to works relocation. 1988 - Company ownership transferred to be wholly owned by Keith Badham by the purchase of Swan Power Transmission 50% holding. KCM is now offering a Thermal Image Survey service as well as vibration Condition Monitoring. 1987-2006 - KCM is established as an authority in the field of Condition Monitoring, applying the techniques in a PRACTICAL fashion to improve reliability and the elimination of wasteful routines wherever appropriate. The company function includes the training of customers in these practises and thus transferring the many years of experience on how best to apply the techniques. The accounts listed represent a small percentage of the total, the last count showed 65 different companies routinely employing the services, in many areas of the World, but KCM remains a small private concern dedicated to service quality. s[2] = "Infrared Thermal Imaging^http://www.kcmservices.com/thermal_imaging.htm^If surface temperature can be used to determine the condition of plant and equipment then Thermal Imaging is a very efficient and practical inspection tool...^Electrical systems are a prime example where deterioration will show as a temperature difference, and having completed in excess of 2000 surveys KCM has the practical experience to guarantee a successful result.  click here for thermal imaging case studies Thermal Imaging Theory Infrared radiation is a process of heat transfer, where thermal energy is released or emitted by matter in the form of electromagnetic waves and absorbed by other matter. All matter above absolute zero -273C has the capacity to radiate or absorb infrared radiation. If we could see this radiation and measure it we would, in time, be able to determine whether the levels of radiation from an object surface or the characteristics of the emissions were normal or abnormal. This concept was the catalyst for the development of Infrared Thermography or IRT. To fully understand the subject of Infrared Thermography IRT, its applications, qualities and limitations, it is necessary to be familiar with the physics and laws that govern heat, heat transfer and the principles of infrared radiation. Heat is the transfer of energy from one part of a material or substance to another due to a temperature difference. Heat is energy in transit; it always flows from a body of higher temperature to that at a lower temperature. As this process continues, the warmer body cools and the cooler body heats up until, eventually, ‘thermal equilibrium’ is reached. i.e. the temperature of each body has equalised. Heat transfer is defined as energy being transferred from one place to another due to temperature differences. There are three modes of heat transfer: conduction, convection and radiation, and any one or a combination of these transfer mechanisms will be responsible for a material receiving or losing thermal energy. Reliable Infrared Thermography relies on an appreciation of the laws of physics and the principles that relate to the transfer of thermal energy. All forms of heat transfer are important in thermography because each has the capacity to influence surface temperature and consequently, the amount of thermal radiation emitted from the surface either directly or indirectly. The materials and surfaces themselves will also have a major effect on the Thermal images, changes to these surface conditions Surface infrared emissivity itself will have a significant effect to apparent and actual temperatures indicated on an Infrared image.^0^5";

Experienced interpretation of the Infra-red images help diagnose the root cause of the problem and its rectification. The inspection technique is a reliable, safe and efficient means of confirming electrical integrity. Below is a typical example of electrical fault found using thermal imaging, here the bottom fuse connection is 180C and urgently needs re-making to avoid failure. An example of a low voltage terminal rail showing a loose connection, the fault is open-circuit on control wiring. Bus chamber below switch showing a heat source, internal inspection recommended, see below for result. Red phase connection to bus-bar almost 300C Found to be very loose. Fault avoided Power failure and potential fire hazard. Off-shore example of sand deposits showing in seperator, colder area at base shows levels of solids. Example of deteriorating lagging on cryogenic pipework showing cold spots on surface. Example showing colder bolts, these were found to be loose. The flainge is on a high pressure crude oil discharge line and could have failed if not detected.^0^5";

Experienced analysis allows problem diagnosis prior to ultimate failure, avoiding both machine downtime and consequential damage.  These major savings can be optimised according to the individual reliability requirements of a specific application. HEATING MEDIUM COMBUSTION FAN F109 schematic diagram showing test points VIBRATION REPORT COMMENT This machine is showing high levels of axial vibration, this is usually associated with mis-alignment. Recommend that the alignment and coupling condition be checked. If the motor were allowed to operate under these conditions this would reduce bearing life significantly. See figure 1 below. Figure 1 is showing the trend of Heating Combustion Fan 109 axial vibration. Note the large reduction once the motor is re-aligned. COOLING WATER CIRC. PUMP CF 138 VIBRATION REPORT COMMENT This machine is showing high levels of High frequency g force on the drive end pump bearing, this is caused by deterioration of the bearing. Recommended that the bearing be greased immediately with a view to changing the bearing at the earliest opportunity. See figure 2 below. Figure 2 is showing the trend of the High Frequency g force on the drive end pump bearing. Note the large increase which indicates severe bearing deterioration.^0^5";
